Read About Our Culture

The Khah language, an Indo-Aryan tongue from the North Western Pahari subgroup, is spoken by around 200,000 people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district. Surrounded by languages like Bhaderwahi, Kishtawari, Pahari, Gojri, Dogri, and Kashmiri, Khah has roots in the ancient Khasha tribe, mentioned in texts like the Mahabharata and Rajatarangini. Influenced by Sanskrit, Khah has evolved but remains integral to the region’s history and culture. Despite confusion with other languages like Poguli, scholars affirm Khah’s unique identity and significance in the region.
